SHORT-WEIGHT BREAD.

AN EXEMPLARY FINE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Police Court, Joseph William Armstrong, a baker, was fined £lO for selling under-weight bread. Defendant's counsel stated that new flour had been used, and the sis-ounce margin allowed for evaporation had proved too little. Magistrate Frazer remarked that every baker has a set of scales, and if he does not like to take the precaution of testing his bread now and again he must take the consequences. This man might have been selling short-weight bread for weeks. "We had some trouble about adulterated milk a little time ago, and I want to make it clear that I am going to take the same stand with regard to this matter. There is only one way to put a stop to.this sort of thing, and that is to hit it hard every time.
