A PLAIN APPEAL 10 THE SHAREHOLDERS AND OTHERS. This is a direct appeal by the management of the Ta* ranaki Meat Company to its shareholders and others to subscribe to the issue of £50,000 offered to the public. No other province has benefited to the extent Taranaki has by co-operation. It has been almost wholly responsible for the success of tlie dairy industry, and, what applies to one industry can with equal force be applied to another. It has been stated that the freezing works is not a co-operative concern. This is quite untrue. 'At least ninety per cent, of the shares in the company are held by suppliers of stock for freezing, and although the method of conducting the business (being governed by the necessities of the trade) differs from that of the dairy industry the underlying principle is precisely the same— THE PROFITS BELONG TO THE PRODUCER. It is not necessary to demonstrate that the works since their establishment have been of inestimable benefit to the community.- Every shareholder in the company will readily concede that. Is there any reason, therefore, against subscribing for the balanee of the shares offered? Had the works been capable of treating the stock as it was offered the gain to the community would have been enormous. The saving would have been many times the amount the directors are now asking the shareholders to subscribe. ' 'Time and tide wait fo rno man,'' and the foundations for the extensions ought to be started now if the work is to be completed in time for next season. That is why the directors are pressing shareholder to send in their applications for shares without delay. The prespects of the industry are very bright, but it' must be remembered that the world has not yet got back to normal, and a strong farmers' freezing company may be a valuable bulwark against a sudden depression of prices. If you are in doubt as to the number of shares you should take up, just study the following points: (a) THE DIRECTORS DO NOT WANT DONATIONS —they are offering you an investment. (i), The company has reached the dividend-earning stage, and you can rely pa getting interest on your money. (c) All dividends are free of income tax. (d) The terms of the issue are very easy. It takes practically three years to call up the whole amount. (e) The directors suggest that the simplest way out of the difficulty is to double your present holding of shares. They tried this method with their own shares. TARANAKI FARMERS' MEAT COMPANY, LTD.
