THE PAKEHA CASE.

ACCUSED ACQUITTED.. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 19. Sergeant Edward George Fenling Mawden was to-day discharged on a charge of having on May 26 unlawfully killed Sergt-Major Samuel Stanley Cheats on the transport Pakeha. Dr. Gordon, who was on the transport, said that he examined Choate's body, and found symptoms which pointed to a fracture of the skull. He was of opinion that the fracture was caused by the fall and not by a blow. The Bench, Captain Henna and Mr. t. Salek, J.P's, said the slippery deck and service boots were contributory causes to the fall. They extended sympathy to Choate's relatives.
