Opportunity was taken at the annual meeti> of the New Zealand Friesian Assoc, .'i to present $e retiring president (Mr. C. C. Buckjand) with a case of pipes suitably inscribed, on the eve of his departure for Canada, where he intends to reside in future. Mr. Buckland was also made a. life member of the association. One speaker remarked that they had lost two men whose places they would never fill—Messrs. Newton King and C. C. Buckland.

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association a vote of condolence was passed with the widow and family of the late Mr W. James, the president and members paying a high tribute to the good workjhe late Mr. James had done for th! Friesian in the Dominion. The death, at the age of 85, took place on Tuesday of Mrs. O'Shea, a very old resident of the Hawera district. With her husband she came to Taranaki very tarly in the history of the Hawera settlement, and for many years they Averefarmingon a property on the main road two of three miles south of the town; but Mr. O'Shea passed away some considerable time ago, and-shortly after that his widow came to reside in town. The late Mrs. O'Shea was a oplendid woman, highly educated, active minded, possessing great force of character, and most loveablo in disposition (says the Star). Naturally, with hsr capabilities, she took a leading part in matters relating to the activites and welfare of the community, and indeed at one time in the history of Hawera few movements were complete without her participation therein. She leaves two sons, Archbishop O'Shea and Mr. J. E. O'Shea, farmer, of Oliangai. In view of her own devotion t_« her church and the dignity attained by her son, the funeral services, which take place on Friday, will be attended by clergy from manv parts of the diocese, and will be special in character.
