•SOLDIERS' ...FIANCEES'.; PASSAGES. By Telegraph.-—Press Association. Wellington, June 18. Tho Government has decided to make substantial concessions to assist soldiers \ibo are bringing their fiancees from England. These immigrants will not be assisted-to the extent of soldiers' wives, but the Government subsidy represents a reduction of £2O on the passage, bringing it within the range of soldiers wh<> might otherwise have difficulty in makng arrangements at the current rates of passage for ordinary travellers. First and second class rates for soldiers' wives apply only to officers and non-commis-sioned officers holding the rank of sergeant or higher.

DELATED CABLES. Wellington, June 18. The Postmaster-General has received later advices as to the delay on the cables to the effect that there was delay on the Eastern by the Cocos route of eight days, and this was due to the cutting out of the original Malta and Alexandria route. Tho latter cable would require 200 knots of new cable for restoration. For the next month it would not he possible to alter the rules regarding full-rate traffic (which is not accepted at all) for Australia and New Zealand, The'advice states further-that one of the principal reasons for the interruptions at present waa the normal deterioration of the cables and the inability of the companies during the war years to effect repairs owing to submarine ris';a and the difficulty of getting new stock. Mr. Mac Donald said the British Government and the censor had advised on no.account must the New Zealand Government allow code telegrams to be isent until after peace was declared. This (applied to private codes. Mr. Mac Donald said this decision was quite definite and was not the decision of the New Zealand Government.
