THE TERRITORIALS.
A. NEW SYLLABUS(From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, June 10. The new, syllabus of instruction for Senior Cadets is expected to make its appearance in the near future. The directions in which the syllabus is being amended have been indicated already. The Defence authorities incline to the opinion that the primary object of cadet training should be to develop body and character. Physical training of the most approved type is to be a very important part of the syllabus, and the purely mili<tary training will be subordinated. The groundwork of the military training will be laid during the cadet period, and then the detailed military instruction will he given at the Territoral stage. A new Territorial syllabus, embodying the lessons of the war, will come later. Its preparation is contingent upon the adoption of certain policies by the Government, and nothing will be done until demobilisation is complete and the Government brought into existence after the general election has had time to make up its 'mind regarding the future defence organisation. The present Minister for Defence has the support of the senior officers with war experience in advocating a period of intensive training i» camp for all youths when first drafted from the Senior Cadets into the Territorials. But this is a policy question for the Government and Parliament to decide.
