LEPPERTON". (From Our Own Correspondent) Of late years, owing to the war, the yearly ball in aid of hall funds, had fallen into abeyance. Last Tuesday it was revived again, with the customary accompaniments and success of bygone years. A willing band of workers had, during the day, tastefully decorated the ball-room with native and other greenery, as well as making other necessary preparations. Despite the dirty evening, a great crowd attended, a number of ladies and a few gentlemen oomplet- j ing the festive touclji by appearing in fancy costumes. The music was supplied by Miss Curd's orchestra (from Jnglewood) and was all that could be desired. The M.'sC. were most attentive to their duties, and everybody voted the ball a great success. Nor must the supper tables, charmingly decorated with daisies and autumn loliage, be overlooked. The decorations, however, appeared to be of secondary importance when the dancers streamed in to do justice to the turkey, fowl, sucking pig, etc., with which the tables' were mainly "decorated." The gross takings amounted to over £2l.

On Monday evening, another attempt is to be made to elect a school committee for Leppcrton. Only one of the parents who have children attending the school turned up at the last meeting. Evidently the revived interest in educational matters which seems to be visible in other centres has not caught on in Lepperton yet. A meeting of the shareholders of the Leppcrton Dairy Company is to be held on Monday evening to decide whether the directors shall retire in rotation, as at present, or whether they all retire, annually, the latter being a notice of motion standing in Mr. Blackballs name. The argument in favor of the present system is! that there arc always some directors on the board who have experience in working the business of tho factory. The argument of the advocates of yearly election is that the good men are sure to go back to the directorate: the men of no ability would be "fired" at the «s»d of a year, instead of three.
