AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING STRIKE.
MODERATE SECTION'S DEMANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.- Copyright. Sydney, June 13. The moderate section of seamen have issued an appeal stating that they are prepared to resume work immediately if the owners grant an increase of 20s monthly and a six hours' working day when in port. The other claims are to be placed before the Arbitration Court. FEDERAL PREMIER'S VIEWS. Melbourne, June 13. Replying to a deputation of union secretaries asking for relief owing to the strike distress, Mr. Watt described the seamen's strike as the most disastrous that had ever oScurred, because the Government and law were practically challenged. The Government would stand to the law. He promised to co-operate with the State Government in relieving distress, but not that of those who had struck. STRIKE LIKELY TO CONTINUE.
