General Deniken has penetrated 200 miles into the heart of the Don and Donetz region, taking 1500 prisoners and is now nearing the Bolshevist centre at Tsaritsyn. The Bolsheviks the capture of Upa after a sanguinary three days' battle. The Esthonians are retreating and abandoning Wenden, north-west of Riga. The Polish army has practically wiped out the Ukraine army, the survivors of which fled to the Pripet marshes. Dettiken'a success was surprising and resulted in a debacle of the Bolshevik forces; it was partly due to aeroplanes and tanks. Deniken is likely to occupy the line of the Volga along a front of 500 miles, 150 tniles beyond his starting point. At some places he advanced 50 miles on his whole front.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Am.
