MOTOR CAR IMPORTS.
AMERICA'S STRONG HOLD. . Statistics compiled in the offices of tbe British Trade Commissions show that 4705 motor cars and 2667 motor cycles were registered in New Zealand last year. Of/the cars, 2716 came from the United States, 1440 from Canada, and 396 from the United Kingdom. Britain supplied 1598 of the motor cycles and the United States 1093. These figures, which are compiled from information supplied- by local bodies, supply information that is not conveyed in the import statistics. Britain's share of New Zealand's motor car trade' is larger than the numbers suggest, owing to the fact that the British cars are much higher priced than the American cars. But the figures show clearly that the war has given America a strong hold on the motor trade. British manufacturers of cars were not able to fill orders during tbe war and the Americans took the opportunity to push their trade.
