PREVENTING FLOODS.
IN HAWKE'S BABY DISTRICT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Niglit. At to-day's meeting of the Hnwke'.-; Bay Rivera Board the report .of the engineers appointed to suggest methods of flood prevention for Hawke's Bay (Messrs J. E. Fulton, M.I.CJL, F. W. Furkert, A.MXC.E., and F. C. Hay, A.M.1.C.E.) was received. They suggested that the Tutaekuri River be diverted from Meanee to the sea by way of Waitangi. With regard to Ngaruroro, the engineers provide a comprehensive scheme for improving the existing channel. It is estimated that the nett cost to the board of the land required for the works recommended will be £36,000 and the work necessitate an expenditure of £132,000.
