TROTTING MEETINGS.. FOR ADMIRAL JELLICOE AND THE PRINCE OF WALES. Christchurch, June 5. • The proposal of the Mayor (Dr. Thacker, M.P.) to hold special trotting meetings in the city on the occasion oi the visits of Admiral Viscount Jellicoe and the Prince of Wales is taking definite shape. A deputation from the New Brighton Trotting Club waited on the Mayor to-day, and stated that the club had approved of the proposal to hold a j special meeting of four races on each | occasion, and it was considered that the Metropolitan, Canterbury Park, New Brighton, and Aahburton Trotting Clubs : should work together in the matter and appoint a board of control for the two meetings. "As a result of a discussion with the deputation," said Dr. Thacker subsequently, "I have made application to the Minister for Internal Affairs for the necessary permits. There is a pre"cedept.when the American Fleet was in Auckland, when a special trotting meeting was held." The president of the New Zealand Trotting Association (Mr. P. Selig) and other members of that body favor the project. The idea is that if permits can be obtained the associated clubs will be able to put up such substantial stakes that the best horses in Australasia will be brought here for the meetings.
