SHIPPING DISASTERS.
THE KOWHAI ASHORE,
NEAR FAREWELL SPIT.

The Union Company's steamer Itowhai Went ashore five miles east of Farewell Spit at an early hour this morning. Wellington, Last Night.
The latest news regarding the ICowliai states that the vessel went ashore at i o'clock this morning in a fog, and is now ill a fairly heavy swell, although she is iiot making much watpr. The Union Company despatched the tug Terawhiti to-night with salvage gear, and she is expected to reach the scene of the mishap about 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
DETAILS OF WRECK OF KOONYA.

The bulk of the Koonya's crew reached Zeehan after a 60-mile walk across country. They were short of food. The balance remained at the scene of the wreck and were taken oft' by a steamer. The Koonva struck heavy weather and the boats were slashed while being launched. The seamen managed to reach a rook 50 yards from the shore by means of a line. Other members of the crew reached and remained on the rock all nijht. Next morning, after several attempts and narrow escapes, a seaman got ashore with a line and all landed safely.
