The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report:— At Westfleld store sale on Thursday last dairV cattle were penned in average numbers, and foi those close to profit or just calved, competition was extra keen, with high prices ruling. Close to profit cows and heifers, best, £ls to £2O ss; others, £lO 15a to £l4 17s 6d; backward sorts were again dull of sale, selling at from £7 to £lO 10s. More cattle were penned in larger numbers than usual. Competition for these was Arm, witli prices showing an upward tendency, everything penned being sold. Empty cows and heifers, £3 10s to £5 15»; yearling steers, £3 12s 6d to £5 ss; heifers, £2 15s to £4 4s; calves, best, £1 ITs to £2 10b; others, £1 Is to £1 las; bulls, £3 to £9 10s.
On Friday, at rapaltura, we held a special dairy sale, when fully the advertised number came forward. All classes were keenly sought after, and W8 report a most successful sale. Best dairy cows and heifers close to profit, £l4 to £l7 ss; others, £ll to £l3 15s; backward cows, £8 to £l3; aged and Inferior cows, £3 15s to £7 15s; backward heifers, best, £9 to £l2 ss; others, £6 to £8 15s. On Friday, at Mangatangi, we held a clearing Bale on account of the Mangatangi estate. The farm horses sold at from £l3 to £33; hacks, £3 to £9; fat lambs, £1 73 6d; ewes in lamb, 16s to 21s; empty cows and heifers £4 to £8 6s; yearling to 18-months steers or heifers (mixed), £5 to £5 ss. At Pukekohe on Monday competition was extra lteen for alt sorts, and high prices ruled. Best dairy oows, £ls to £2l 15s; others, fi» to £l4 10s; aged and Inferior oows, £5 to £8 15s; best dairy heifers, £ll to £l6 10s; others, £7 to £lO 15s; heifer calves, £1 53 to £2 6s; steer calves, £1 Is to £1 173. • At Westfleld fat slock market, on Wednesday, beef was pennod In scarcely average numbers, and mostly of Inferior quality. Choice ox sold to £2 lis per 1001b, others £2 7a to £2 10s per 1001b; cow and heifer beef sold at from £2 3s to £2 8s per 1001b. Steers sold at from £lO lQs to £2O 17s 6d; cows and heifers at from £8 to £ls ss. Sheep were penned In average numbers and sold under keen competition at an advance of last week's rates. No extra heavy sheep were yarded. Best wethers £1 17s; medium wethers, £1 12s 3d to £1 16s 9d; light wethers, £1 8s 9(! to £ 1,125; best owes, £1 12s to £1 16s 3d; medium ewes, £1 6s to £1 lis 9d; light ewes £1 Is 3d to £1 5s 9d. Calves came forward In large numbers again and although not up to last woek's extreme prices, were good value. Small choice vealers are wanted. Runners sold from £4 10s to £7 7s 6d for an 18 months steer; heavy vealers, £3 15s to S4 Bs. medium £2 153 to £3 14s, light £2 2s to £2 14s;'light, fat calves, 18s to £2; fresh dropped, 8s to 15s. Lambs were penned in full numbers and sold at last week's rates. Best, £1 7s to £1 12s 3d; medium lambs, £1 2s to £1 6s 9d; light, 16s to £1 Is 9d; inferior lambs, 13.1 9d to 15s 9d. Pigs were penned short of requirements and sold under keen competition. No choppers penned. Heavy liaconcrs, £5 10s to £G 7s 6d, medium £4 10s to £5 8s; heavy porkers £3 12a to £4 9s, medium £3 to £3 lis, light £2" to £2 19s; weaners, good, 14s to 17s, others 7s to 13s.
