INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent) Inglewood, Friday. Over fifty, applications were received for th® position of manager to the Moa dairy store department rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr P. Free. Mr J. Young, of Lower Hutt, was appointed. The Ladies' Patriotic Commmittee are still working in the interests of returned soldiers, crjd on Monday another successful euchre party and dance welcoming home returned boys took place, and the music and floor were excellent. The proceeds are to bo devoted to the Bliod Soldiers' Pond.
An Ingiewood hockey team visited Hawera last Tuesday and mot defeat at the hands of the local team, by 3 goals to 1. Efforts are being made to get a sufficiently strong team together to take part in the association fixtures. The ladies are enthusiastic over hockey, and it ia anticipated that two strong teams will boavailable.
Rugby supporters are working hard in the interest of the game, and a first and second Junior team have been formed. The form?r have so far not been defeated. The club possesses several keen supporters. The first, juniors met and defeated Midhirst here on. Thursday last by 14 points to 9. The land hunger, which for some time past, has made itself manifest here, shows no slg'»s of abating, and local agents have had a bu - »y lime of late disposing of properties. TUo Government have purchased a block of land on the Lincoln Road as a soldiers' settlement.
