An incident, believed to be unprecedented, occurred during the Somerset— Snswx County match at Taunton. Somerset completed both innings, and Sussex had nine wickets down in the second innings, the scores being level. The eleventh man was previously injured, and had not contemplated batting, but, after some delay, hastened to the field in plain clothes;. The captains were willing to continue, but the umpire fStreet, a Surrey professional) applied rale 45 and drew stumps. The question arose whether Sussex had lost the match under the two-minute rule, or whether the game ended in a tie. The other umpire refused to give a decision,' and the result was officially recorded aa a tie. The Marylebone committee announces that, as the Somerset captain left the decision to the umpires, and they decided to draw stumps, the committee approves of their decision.—Aus.'-N.Z. Cable Assn.
