ELTHAM SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING. The Eltham Sports Club held theit first meeting in the Taumata Park, Jsl- - yesterday. Considering the time of the year, the attendance was excellent, and the meeting passed off most satisfactorily. The day was. 1 fine, and, though the sky was not free from threatening clouds, the sun shone most of the time, and the day was warm and mild. The club, which has only been in existence for a short time, occupies a mos.t gratifying position financially, and, with subscriptions and a donation of £lO 10a from Mr.Gant, were in a position to face partial, or even complete financial failure of the meeting. They had sufficient funds in hand to meet expenses quite apart from the gate. The sports were well managed, and everything went smoothly from beginning to end. The Eltliam Band, under Mr. A. Btealey, was in attendance, and contributed in no small measure to the pleasure of the crowd. The officials were as follows: Football referees, Messrs H. Nuttall and H. H. Judd; handicapper, Mr. H. Nuttall; judges, Messrs H. H. Judd and J. Bodle; starter, Mr. J. Hawke; referee, Mr. E. L. Taylor; secretary, Mr. A. G. Mills; treaFnrer and assistant-secretary, Mr. M. A. WJiitford, Mess.Ts 0. Manley and Jackson had charge of the children's races. The luncheon arrangements miscarried, and, though there were ample provisions, the caterer failed to. put in an appearance. This defect was remedied later, when an appeal for volunteers to assist in the refreshment room met with a good response. Great interest was taken by the large crowd assembled in the Bports, particularly in the football tournament. Full provision was made for giving the children a good time, and, in addition to the sports, sweets were freely distributed. The officials carried out their duties with courtesy and efficiency, and liberal praise must be given to the secretary (Mr. A. G. Mills) and his! assistant (Mr. M. A. Whitfonl). The club, which took the first oportunity after its formation to hold a meeting, intend to hold another meeting in the summer, probably about Chris.tmas time. The gate receipts yesterday were about £2O. A picture entertainment in aid of the club's funds was held in the evening. The football teams which took part in the tournament were as follows:
