ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.
INGLEWOOD BOROUGH AND COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the Taranaki County Council meeting yesterday an application was received from the Inglewood Borough Council for permission to erect lines for the transmission of electric current over certain areas within the county boundary.
The Mayor of Inglewood (Mr. J. Sutherland), accompanied by the electrical engineer (Mr. Stewart), waited on the council in support of the application, Mr. Sutherland explaining that they were not asking for anything but permission to erect wires. The borough had been approached by several people and companies to supply them with power. When linked up with the New Plymouth scheme, where they proposed to get all their power from, they would be in a position to supply power at a very low rate. Before they could do so, however, they needed the permission of the County Council to erect the necessary transmission lilies. In the course of a discussion on the application, Cr. Capper said there was a movement for the formation of a special area in the Moa Riding, and he did not think any Tight should be given to any other body that would conflict with the proposed special area's operations.
Other councillors were similarly opposed to granting the sole rights for the erection of transmission lines to the Inglewood Borousrh Council. It was decided that there was not sufficient information, before the council to enable it to come to a decision, and the matter was referred to the county solicitor for a legal opinion.
