SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
A meeting' of the executive of the School Committees' Association was held in the Technical College last night, when there were present: Messrs S. (r.'Smith, M.P: (Chairman), 6'. H. Dolby, 'J. Garcia, W. G. Beid (Secretary), and' j. B. Simpson (Moa). Apologies ivere reeeived from Messrs A. Lister '• (Franldey) and R. S. Sage (Hawera).' ■ ' Remits for the annual conference were received- from ■ the Nev.'f II "Road and EgmoDt Association, and it was resolve,l that' the arranging of remits be left in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Dolby. At the last meeting of the executive a petition was received from settlers in the Durham Road district, asking the executive to assist in having the regulation reinstated to that children on Durham Road East and Durham Road West and on the Mountain Road north of Durham Road should be permitted to ride free on the train to Norfolk Road School, as hitherto. The executive asked that a plan should be submitted. This was submitted by Mr. Simpson last night, and it was. 1 resolved that the question be referred to the chairman.
• The Minister of Education (the Hon. J. A. Hanan) forwarded replies to remits passed at last conference, stating, inter alia, that no general desire had been expressed for the payment of an honorarium to each chairman of an education board and substantial reasons for this payment would have to be submitted before it was likely that Parliament would approve of the payment of an honorarium.
