THE PEOPLE'S. ' "THE WOMAN GOD FORGOT." I MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2.30. I Geraldine Farrar's,' latest super-picture from the Artcraft studios, "The Woman | Sod Forgot/' has been looked forward to for some time by local film fans, and today's announcement will be hailed with delight. On account of the holiday a special matinee has been arranged to commence this afternoon at 2.30. In the opening stages of the plot the nephew of Montezuma, the all-powerful king of the Aztecs, asks him for the hand of his! beautiful daughter, Tecza. Montezuma agrees, but Tccza rejects her suitor. A quarrel is brewing, when it is announced that some unknown invaders have landed and are pillaging and burning the temples and god 3of the Aztecs. Montezuma sends,' his nephew and a band of slaves with presents of precious stones, to try and induce the invaders to leave the country in peace. The invaders are Spaniards. Their leader, Cortez, refuses to leave. He send.v his favorite, Captain Alvardo, to represent himself to Montezuma as the son of tlio "Fair God." The captain arrives at the palace oi Montezuma, where a fight ensues, owing to the king's nephew attempting to prove whether or no the officer is a god by thusting a spear at him. Tec2a is attracted by the stranger, and after lis 1 escapes from the infuriated soldier?, hides him in her room. He is found and sentenced to the sacrificial altar. How I the Spaniards gain admission and save [Alvardo, and how one of the stranjieft fights in history ends, is dramatically Uiown iu this striking and spectacular production. The final screening is tomorrow night. EVERYBODY'S. LAST NIGHT OF MABEL XORMAND! AS "PECK'S BAD GIRL." Popular Mabel Normand has never been cast to better advantage than in "Peck's Bad Girl," her latest picture screened-at Everybody's last night. 11l this picture she is cast as Minnie Penelope Peck, a lively young lady who rais.es more excitement in Yaptank in one afternoon than one small town can get over talking about in four years. Failing to collect nine dollars owed her father by the president of the Yaptank bank, she starts » ruu on that institution that includes the entire population and brinjs out the fire department also. Before peace is restored Minnie start;: a new excitement by trap a band of robebrs tJiav ,un< ijent on robbing the bank. A heroine at last, she ends ib\ getting the ninn dollars and a husband besides. Incidentally she is engaged as a general help iu a modis.te's shop, and exhibits low-cut gowns in high-cut underwear. To-night will be .'he final screening occasion of. this bright and attractive picture.
MALE CHOIR CONCERT. Much interest, is being manifested in this week's concerts to lie given by the New Plymouth Male Choir 'Society. ft will be remembered Iliat the lust, concert was given under somewhat adverse cir..•nmstaiices, when quite a number of laeriiliers were prevented from taking par.t, on account of not having sufficient-' Iv revered from the effects' of the influonza.\ The conductor stated, however, that the was determined to ma'ce amends at, its next, concert for anv shortcoming in connection with the last, one. The programme arranged for Thursday's concert includes six choir items, only onc\ of the numbers having been previously •Jtiven by them. There will also be a instrumental quartette. flute solo, a vocal sextette. The vocal soloist, for the occasion i* Madame Johnstone Tofjliss, late of Sydney, who gives three ]s*)'ogramme numbers. Her successes in important engagements in the chief centres of the' Dominion should ensure ber a\n enthusiastic reception in Now Plymouth.
