A London cable states that Lord Liverpool's term as Governor of New Zealand has been extended to June, 1920. Mr. C. H. Burgess (Mayor of New Plymouth) and Mrs. Rachel Mary Barton (of Hawera) have been made Members of the Order of the British Empire. Mr. R. Branch, inspector of the Taranakl County Council, yesterday sent in his resignation of the position, which was accepted with regret. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., Auckland, is to temporarily replace Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., who is still indisposed. Mr. Poynton is expected to arrive in New Plymouth to-day. Mrs W. G. Anstif, Omata, has received a cable from her husband, Pvt. Anatis, stating that he left England on 10th May by the Waimana. Mr. Hugh Fraser, late of New Plymouth, has taken his discharge in England, and is now associated with the London Prest'. He expects to return to New Zealand at the end of the present year. Mr. H. D. Eorsyth, managing director of the Eltharn Dairy Company, left yesterday for Wellington, where he catches the Moana for Vancouver. He visits Canada, United States and England in connection with the dairying industry. He is accompanied by Mrs. Forsyth. A Wellington telegram reports the death of Mr. Edward Anderson, a well known Wellington merchant, aged 75. He leaves a widow, four sons, and one daughter. One of his sisters is Mrs .John Hiill'ince, widow of the late Premier of New Zealand.

The death took place on Sunday in Christjlmrcli of Mr. T. \V. Adams, one nf the foremost educationists in Canterbury and one of the leading- laymen in the Methodist Church of New Zealand, aacd 77. He came to New Zealand in 1S(12, and settled at ffreendale in 1892 ■He was elected a member of the Kducation Board, being chairman in 1807 and 1904, and was also elected a member of thp Board of Governors of Canterbury College in 1800- He made a life work of collecting trees and shrubs from every temperate clime, and had a collection of over 700 different species.
