(From Our Own Correspondent.) (All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr H ). Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.) RETURNED SOLDIERS' BALL. _ Stratford, Hay 30. The Stratford Returned Soldiers' Ball in the Town Hall on Thursday night was 1 well up to expectations. The organisation work was in the hands of a strong committee, who did their work with great thoroughness down to the last detail. The sale of tickets was taken up energetically, and, though the whole of the returns are not to hand yet, the tickets taken at the door represented about. CSO. The stage had been tastefully decorated by Mr. and Mrs. P. Aitken, whose work was much admired by all. The eil'ect was greatly improved by the electric lighting effects, for which credit is due to Mr. Hollands, the borough electrical engineer. The remainder of the decorating was done by the committee, which consisted of Messrs p. 11. Masters (secretary), A. R. Masters, E. Young, ,T. Petrie, P. Clemow, A. Wilkie, and ('. A. Marchant. Music of the best was provided 'by Mrs. Bianchi's fipie orchestra of six instruments. Messrs P.- Skoglund, W. It. Young, and T. Slieehan acted as M.'sC. Acknowledgment must, be made of the good work done by Mr. F. H. Masters, whose activities as secretary contributed largely, with the able assistance of the committee, to the success of the undertaking.
GENERAL. At a meeting held on Wednesday night in Miss Jan's rooms it; was decided to hold a ball in the Town Hall on June 2!> in aid of the Stratford wounded soldiers Mr. H. J. Gray was appointed secretary, and Misses Geragiitv and Kelly assistant secretaries. A committee of ladies was formed with a view to a canvass of the town in connection with the supper arrangements;. On the King's birthday shops in Stratford will be closed. The annual meeting of the Stratford Acclimatisation Society will be held in Mr. Newton King's oflices to-day (Saturday) at 7.30 p.m. Sister L. Cumberworth arrives in' Stratford to-night (Saturday). Nominations for the Eltham sports on the King's birthday clos.e to-day.
Privates Bennett and Hart, of the Riniutakft draft, returned to Stratford on Thursday evening, and were accorded a welcome by the Mayor. T. I .LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. My usual weekly sale at my rooms was held last Saturday, when a splendid entry of poultry came to hand Prices were exceptionally good.
