RETURNING SOLDIERS.

THE RIMUTAKA'S DRAFT. 2000 MEN IN EGYPT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 28. The Rimutaka's draft of 721 men was disembarked to-day. The whole operation was completed in 12 minutes. The South Island portion, other than men for Nelson district, will leave for the south to-morrow night. The Nelson men left by the Pateena this afternoon and the North Island men left by the tecond Auckland express. TRANSPORT TOFUA ARRIVES. Dunedin, Last Niglit. The troopship Tofua, with 601 troops, anchored in the lower harbor about 7.30 to-night. The vessel was declared a clean ship, and will be berthed at Dunedin at 11 a.m. on Thursday. It was an ideal voyage almost the whole way. The health of the troopa is excellent, there being only one cot case, and it is not of a serioua nature, A special train leaving at noon will take the northern men, and the southern men will leave in the afternoon.

Christchurch, May 28. Sir James Allen stated to-day that about 2000 New Zealand soldiers were in Egypt. A thousand of these were expected home in June and the other thousand in July. Sir James Allen said this was not definite, became the transhipment of troops depended on tho shipping available and because further trouble in Egypt might cause the soldiers to be detained.
