STRATFORD.

Oil Thursday evening the Town Hall should be filled with dancers and spectators, the occasion., being the ball organised by the Stratford branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association in aid of the Nurses' Memorial Fund. Already quite a large number of tickets have been purchased by intending patrons, who may rely upon finding all arrangements complete for their comfort and enjoyment. Despite the cold and wintry conditions the attendance of the public at the Town ■Hall last evening, the occasion being the Papakakiira —Te Au concert, was very satisfactory. All the items contributed by Misses Te Au and Jones, Mrs. Jones, and Messrs Papakakura and Day, were keenly relished, encores being frequent. The Stratford Football Club plays two games here on Thursc'my. The teams selected are as follow:—Against Midliirst: Fenwick, Frvday, Hancock, Cameron, Eric Kivell, Rogers, N. Kivell, Bonner, Terry, Masters, Butcher, Hampson, Hurlston, C. Kivell, McCullough. Against Stratford D.H.S.: D. Anderson, G. Collins, Forrest, Stackbuni, Dudding, Thcrkleson, Grant, Berg, Mundy, L. Walsh, Rov Kivell, Mcil.lenry, Chard, Hall, McDonald. Dr. Steven, medical superintendent of the Hospital "Board, lias returned from his holidav down south.

Mr. E. Carryer, a recent arrival from Auckland, succeeds Mr. C'ljoary as hon. secretary of the Patriotic Society.

Mrs. J. B. Hine and Mrs. Murray Urquhart left on Saturday to meet Major Urquhart, who arrived by the Riinutaka. They will remain south awaiting the afrival of Major Hine by the Devon.
