j A HEALTHY POSITION. ! r £s2o* NET PROMT FOR YEAR. The town cleric has submitted the following report to the New Plymouth Borough Council:— Income: The total income for the year was £16,289 Os 3d, aa compared with an income last year of £14,007 19s. This shows an increase of £2281 Is 3d, which is made up as follows: Private lighting £1253 18ii 7d, power and heating £1284 14s 4d, minimum guarantee current not consumed £517 8s 4d, rents and licenses 10s Expenditure: The total working expenses amounted to £3804 12s, as compared with £4179 17s 3d lait year, showing a decrease this year of £375 5s 3d. Dealing with subheads,of the expenditure, it will be seen that the cost of generation decreased by £622 17s. The items in which the principal reductions are shown are as follows: Reduced expenditure cleaning race, forebay, tunnel, etc., £254' 12s 4d, reduced expenditure temporary dams £92 5s 4d, reduced expenditure repairs and maintenance of buildings £lB7 4s 4d, reduced amount of stores used £BS 7s 2d. The cost of distribution increased from £963 18s lid to £ll7O 14s sd, the increase being principally in private lighting repairs and testing. The cost of management remained practically the same as for the previous year. Gross profit: The above leaves a gross profit of £12,484 Ss 3d to be transferred to the net revenue account, against £9828 Is 9d for the previous year, showing an increase of £3656 6s 6d. Net revenue account: The net profit after allowing for interest, depreciation, and renewal funds amounted to £520) 19si 6d, compared with £2193 Is Id for the previous year, an increase of £3OOB 18s fid. Of this increase £1045 13s 4d is accounted for as follows: £528 5s extra depreciation was allowed in the previous year, being the value of portion of the old dam, carried away and replaced by Dam No. 2, and £517 Si' 4d minimum guarantee contract current not consumed. This really belonged to the previous year, but negotiations in regard to the matter with the company concerned were only concluded late in the current year. The position disclosed is an .extremely satisfactory one, and the result gives tome slight indication of the enormous future possibilities; of the development of this department.
