MEMORIAL HALL.
SATURDAY'S CANVASS- £IOO. The house-to-house canvass made on Saturday by the members of the New Plymouth High School Old Girls' Associjition t on behalf of funds for a memorial recreation hall for the nurses at tlie New Plymouth Hospital, met with a very gratifying response. The Old Girls took up the matter very enthusiastically, and mapped out the town so well that practically the whole area of the borough was fully covered. Collectors were appointed for each street and section of a street, and a thorough canvass of the town made. Courtesy and generosity were met with on every hand, and the day's total of £l6O (approximately) exceeded the hopes of the most sanguine of the workers.
This amount, of course, does not include any of the country contributions, and it ia not expected that the total of these will be available for several days.
The thanks of the nurses and of the whole community will be tendered to the Old Girls for the splendid effort they have made in so deserving l , a cause.
