GENERAL RICHARDSON AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. General Richardson was accorded a civic reception to-day. In reply to questions, General Richardson Bai'd he felt confident that soldiers would not be disappointed when the final pronouncement was made by the Government in regard to gratuities.
MUNICIPAL COAL SUPPLY. Westport, Last Night. At the Westport Borough Council meeting to-night, at the instance of Cr. Parry, it was resolved: That this council notes with pleasure tho proposal by the Christchurch City Council to take an active part in supplying coal to the masses, and offers to support and cooperate, and give all the assistance within its power to enable the Christchurch council to carry the project to a successful issue, and, furthermore, this council extends its hearty invitation to Dr. Thacker and his councillors to visit this district and learn of the many and large areas of excellent coal now lying dormant and awaiting the investment of capital. STATE LINE OF STEAMERS. Wellington, Last Night. The Harbor Board to-night passed a resolution favoring the establishment of a State line of steamers in New Zealand, in order to improve the present unsatisfactory condition of affairs.
