LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Hawera branch), report as follows: At Kakaramea on Monday, 12th May, we had a fair yarding, and business was transacted at the following rates: Fat cows £10; forward cows £8 5s to £0 10s; stores £4 10s to £C 15s; 20 to 22montlis in-calf heifers, £5 7s fid to £o 17s Od; weaner heifers, £1 7s to £1 10s; fair conditioned 4 and 6-tooth wethers, £1 3s Cd 'to £1 4s Id'; store lambs, 6s 3d to 0s 6d; forward lambs 12s lid. At Eltham on Wednesday, 14th inst., we report a small sale owing to the Egmont races, and we quote the following prices: Forward cows £8 to £0 15s; store cows, £5 7s Od to £7 '2s Gd; Jersey weaner heifers, £2 8s; f.m. ewes 13s Cd.
At Hawera on Friday, the 16th inst., we had a full yarding of sheep and a small yarding of cattle. There was a fair demand and the bulk of the yarding changed hands at the following prices: Forward cows £8 to £8 12s Gd; store cows £5 lis to £7 Is; boners, £4 2s to £4 ss; empty 2-year heifers £5 5s to £5 10s; 20-months in-calf heifers, £5 Is; ditto empty heifers, £3 10s; good Jersey weaner heifers £4 2a; weaner heifers £2 to £2 4s; 2-year steers, £4 3s; 2-tooth ewes 25s 3d; f.m. ewes 13s 6d to 14s; store lambs, 7s 3d to lis 7d. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. At Rahotu on Thursday, Bth May, there was a small entry, Best weauers made £2 12s; others £1 16s; store cows, £3 10s to £6 6s; forward cows, £7 5s to £8 Is; rough 20-month steers, £3 19s.
On Friday 9tli at Corbett Road I conducted the dispersal sale of pedigree Friesians in the estate of the late William James. Buyers were present from all parts and competition was good. Most of the stud remained in Taranaki but two yearlings were purchased from outside districts, Opotiki and Springston (Canterbury). Prices wore: Pedigree cows, 22 to 200gns; pedigree 2ycar heifers, 32 to OOgns; 2J-year pedigree bulls, 23 to 45gns; IS-month bulls, 15 and 18gns; pedigree weaner bulls, 12 to 30gns; grade cows, £l7 to £25; grade weaners, £2 to £2 as; horse, £l7; implements and sundries at satisfactory prices.
At Ureniii, on Monday 12th, in-calf 2 antl 2J-year heifers made £8 to £S as; store cows, £5 18s to £7 14s; empty heifers (good) £5 10s; cow and calf, .to 15s; mixed weaners, 2(is; pony, £O. At Stoney River on Tuesday 13tli there was a good entry, most of which was cleared but prices (with the exception of in-calf heifers) showed no improvement. Weaners made 20s to 355; rough 18-month steers, £2 18s; in-calf 2-year Shorthorn heifers, £8 2s to £8 ss; Holsteina, £8 10s; mixed sorts, £7 3s; Shorthorn 3-year, £10; bulls, £0 10s; small cows, £2 13s Od and £2 15s; store cows, £4 15s to £<j 12s fid; fat cow, £lO 15s; fat 3-year bullock, £l2 12s tid;'lambs 16s 4d.
