According to the Gazette 75 chains of the Manganui Road, running from the junction of the Croydou Road, is declared a county road. Mr. T. Purcell, of the local post office, accompanied by Mit;. Purcell, left by the mail train tliis morning on a holiday trip to Napier and Wangauui. Tlie Women's National Reserve is still growing in membership. Arrangements are being made to have a series of lectures delivered that should prove of particular interest to members..
To-morrow (Wednesday) evening a "hard-up" social will be hold at Toko. A. social by any other name is just the same to all as far as Toko is concerned That is to say, the promoters will spare no effort to make their patrons pass a pleasant evening, and have secured the best available music, while the supper arrangements will be found all that can be desired. The oharge of admission should be within the reach of all, and if the weather is good there is every reason to anticipate a crowded floor at the Coronation Hall.
On Thursday at Tuna a welcome-home social is being tendered to Corporal J. Grnshenski by the settlers of the district. Mr. W. Hathaway, chairman of the local Patriotic Committee, and his assistants, have a treat in store for all who uttend. It is understood that several Stratford performers will assist in the concert portion of this evening's entertainment.
On the 31st instant the southern fixtures of the Rugby Union commence, but up to the present the northern competition has not been published. Selectors C. Jackson, "Dick" Harkness and J. Tizard arc anxious to have the Stratford Club secure a few trial games before the cup matches start. Perhaps Inglewood and Eltham may be able to oblige in this direction.
The usual fortnightly session of the Stratford S.M. Court will be held on Friday, To-morrow (Wednesday) the delegates representing the Taranaki War Relief Association meet at the Municipal Chambers.
