END OF THE DROUGHT.
RAINFALL IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, Last Night. The drought has broken. The weather has been threatening for several days. A heavy north-easterly gale blew about three hours before daylight this morning, ~ accompanied by a thunderstorm and *• heavy rain. The fall up to 9 a.m. was 2.32 inches. The weather moderated today, but remains threatening. The barometer has fallen 10 degrees since Thursday, and now is 29.27, the lowest for several weeks The last fall of rain of over an, inch vas on Ortober 24, the highest since being .70 of an inch, recorded at 9 a.m. on March 16. The total for this year is now 8 inches. STEADY KALN IN WELLINGTON. Wellington, Las.t Night. The dry spell was broken to-day by a steady fall of rain, which will do the ' parched country an incalculable amount of good and lessen the anxiety that was being felt on behalf of the city's water 6upply. The need for economy in use of water, however, still exists
