GERSTENA for BREAKFAST.

THOUSAND POUND WAR MEMORIALS. In connection with the Trentham Dominion Scholarships Art Union, the committee is developing another scheme which has already met with some success. The scheme is to secure donations from wealthy individuals and associations for the purpose of educating a number of children and establishing them in professions. Tlic Hawke'g Bay War Relief Association has made a definite promise, with the Minister's approval, to pay the cost of the Continuation Studies of five children with a limit of £SOOO. Appeals are being made to various quarters for similar (lonations on the basis of £IOOO per child, ,It is contended that to take a child of a soldier who has sacrificed his life for the Empire and to educate that child, paying his or her fees, board and all living expenses, is to institute a memorial far more enduring than any of stone or bronze. The scheme is to be open to the whole Dominion and the children will be selected on an absolutely fair basis, without favor. The Hawke's Bay Province has already given £BOOO in prizes to the Art Union and with this additional £SOOO to the new scheme, besides the splendid work put in by a number of prominent Hawke's Bay residents, this province has set a splendid lead for the whole Dominion. Dr. Riddell is just now putting in some strenuous work on behalf of the soldiers' children and is pushing this scheme vigorously. GERSTENA for BREAKFAST.
