STEAMERS HELD UP.

FIREMEN IN COMMAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Maori was unable to sail to-night, being seven firemen short of her complement. The Pateena, for Picton and Nelson, was delayed until 7 p.m. by the shortage of one fireman. The Waihora, for Sydney, was delayed about 7 hours while another fireman was being secured. The Manuka was to leave for Sydney this evening, but the seamen and firemen practically refused to sail unless three convalescent members of the crew were removed to hospital from Somes Island, it being contended that accommodation at the island was unsuitable. The Public Health Department refused to agree to the patients' removal, it being considered dangerous to the public health to bring them ashore. The Manuka is now fixed to sail at noon to-morrow.
