On the application of Mr F. E. Wilson, Edward Marshall (Opunake) was yesterday admitted a barrister of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. Mr G. Raftson who has been spending three months at Whakatane, returned to New Plymouth on Saturday evening, very much better in health. The death occurred at Auckland on Sunday of Mrs Brown, widow of the late Mr Alexander Brown, who at one time owned a sawmill at Ngaere.
The Taranaki Education Board has nominated Mr. R. McCallum, M.P., for a seat on the Victoria University College Council.
Mr. J. Thomas, first assistant at the Stratford District High School, has been appointed headmaster of tho IhglewoDd School in succession to Mr D. P. Evans, who has been appointed headmaster of tlie West End ■School. Mr Thomas will take up his position on July 1. Mr J. A. Bridgeman, Westown, has received advice that his son, Private N. Bridgeman, is returning on the Pakehii, due to arrive in Wellington about May 27th. Private N. Bridgeman left with the l'dth Reinforcements. V
Mrs L. OTJonnell, Devon Street, has received advice that her husband, LanceCorporal L. S. O'Donnell, is returning by the Pakeha, due to arrive in Wellington on 27 tli May. Mrs H. Skelton, Smart Road, has received advice that her son, Corporal Norman Skelton, is returning on the Pakeha, due to arrive in Wellington about May 27th. Corporal Skelton left with the 18th Reinforcements. Word has been received that Staff Sergt.-Major W. D. Webster, who left with the sth Reinforcements and was wounded at Gallipoli, is returning by the Pakeha, due in New Zealand on the 27th iiist.
Captain Henry Cornwall Davies, R.E., younger son of the lato Major-General K. H. Davies, C.8., was married on March IS to Bertha Grace, youngest daughter of Robert James Matthews, of New Plymouth. The ceremony took place at St. Mary's Church, Midhurst, Sussex, England. ■
Mr Roosevelt's will leaves a trust fund of £12,000, the income of which is equally divided among his children, and it also leaves ail the family platis for equal division among the children The rest of the estate goes to Mrs Roosevelt, with the right to distribute it in her will as she wishes. The value of the estate is not announced. Somr estimates place it at £IOO,OOO, mostly earned by his literary efforts since Mr Roosevelt left the White House
The death took place in a Wellington priviifr hospital on Monday of Dr. Ross, ot Petone. Dr. Ross was 'born in Tura■knm fitty years ago, and took his degree at Otftgo University. After serving for some time as house surgeon on the Dunedin hospital staff, l le i eft the country to -continue his studies in London. On his ictum from England in 1897, Dr. Rosa settle! down ]n Petone, and ever since then he had served the people continuously and well. Dr. Ross was extremely popular w,th all, „„d his strenuous labors during the recent epidemic will be remembered by all Residents of lelone.
