LIGHT RAILWAYS. By Telegraph.—Press Association; Hamilton, May 13. . At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce Captain Bruce, who served as 'engineer in charge of the light railways of the New Zealand Division in France, gave an address on light railways. He considered light railways, eminently suitable for New Zealand as feeders to the main lines and for developing back country. The meeting decided to cable to Mr. Massey urging him to go thoroughly into the matter and procure light lines in; (France to use in an experiment here. WIHAKATANE AND THE DROUGHT. Whakatane, May 13. The dry spell seems 'to suit the land round Whakatane. Household tanks are going dry, and the excess of moisture has disappeared on ■ the Rangitikei Swamp, resulting in a good growth of Rrm feed. Much developmental work is being done such as reading and drain I making in the hill areas.
