ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
KILLED ON THE RAILWAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. An unknown man was killed on the railway near Auckland to-night. Drivers of two trains, on reaching the station, reported that they had struck something on the line, and, on a search being made, a mangled body was found lying beside the rails. So far, the victim has not been identified. The name of "Nelson" was written in a straw hat found near the scene of the accident.
FOUND DROWNED. Dunedin, Last Night. At the inquest on the body of Mervyn Greene, found at Lawyer's Head /this morning, the evidence showed that on the night he disappeared he had had five or sis drinks of whisky, and was then proceeding to a chemist's for a "pick me up." He subsequently visited the Tivoli Tea Rooms, but, not feeling well, he went to a public convenience, where he Was last seen. Deceased had pneumonic influenza in Featherston Camp last November, and he thought it had affected his heart.. A verdict of found drowned was returned.
