His Honor 'Mr. Justice Hnsking is to preside at the session of the Supreme Court which commences in New Plymouth to-day. He. arrived by the mail train on Saturday night. Mr. W. M. Bayne, who some thirteen years ago was manager of Mr. Tiartlett's photography business in New Plymouth, is on a visit here. He is greatly impressed with the development of the town and tha prospects of the whole district.

Rev. Mr. Grant Cowen and Mrs. Cowen and daughter went to Auckland by the, steamer Raranga on Friday. Mrs. Cowen' and daughter are to leave for England on the Corinthic, which is timed to depart from Auckland on Tuesday mornii:g. "

A well-known Kaponga farmer, Mr. George Melville, died last week at Waitoa, To Aroha. Deceased, who had reached the age of 74, was interred in the Kaponga cemetery on Thursday. He leaves a widow, one son, Mr. W. Melville, and three daughters, Mrs. H. Melton and Miss Melville, Kaponga, and Mrs. A. Melton, Waitoa, Tc Aroha.

Death has claimed auotlier Tar&Eaki old identity in the person of Mrs. Catherine Barrett, who died on Sfiturduy, at the ripe age of 80 years, She was horn .•n the County of Cornwall, England, and arrived in New Zealand by the ship Avalanche in January, 1874. She lost her husband in 1878. Deceased leaves a family of nine children—Alf Barrett. Kawhia; James Barrett, Fatea; Richard Barrett, New Plymouth; William Barrett, Expeditionary Forces, Egypt: Mcsnames H. A. McLean, S. Oliver, R. O'Donnell. F. Thompson, New Plymouth, and W.
