ANGLICAN SYNOD.
YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. At the general synod, Archdeacons Richards, Williams, and Johnson, Canons Tisdall and Purchas, and the Dean of Nelson, were elected a Board of Theological Studies. The report of the Selected Committee on Melanesian affairs justified the recent action of the mission staff, for an adjustment of the difficulties, and promised sympathetic consideration for such proposals as they might make. The Bishop of Wellington, Archdeacon Williams, and Messrs T. F. Martin, H. D. Andrews, and J. W. Henderson were elected as the standing committee, and the standing committee were authorised to appoint a commission on the fundamental clauses of the constitution.
A vigorous debate took place re the widespread immorality, speakers attributing it largely to the secular school system. A Bill on fixed primacy was relegated to the Diocesan Synods- for their consideration. The question of inadequate stipends for clergy was also discussed. The laymen strongly advocated a considerable increase. The statement made in a Wellington paper that Bishop Neville had stated his intention to resign the primacy is offially denied. The Bishop /has never made such a statement.
