The case against a local Chinese merchant, Sai Lauri, of having aided and abetted smugling into New Zealand of two prohibited Chinamen, was concluded to-day. A conviction was entered, and fines of £2O on each of two charges were imposed, with £8 12s costs. Security for appeal was fixed at 15 guineas.
