GERMANY.
DESOLATION IN BELGIUM AND FRANCE. DELEGATES DEEPLY IMPRESSED. UNDERSTAND NOW THE ALLIES' FEELINGS. Received May 9, 12.30 a.m. London, May 5. A Berlin message states that according to long dispatches from German special correspondents with the peace delegation the members were deeply impressed by the sight of the wasted regions in France and Belgium. The Vossische Zeitung says the spectacle throws a clearer light on many things than a hundred conferences. These people have suffered horribly, and naturally their fists are clenched and they curse us, A Berlin wireless states that in order to avoid damage to the Silesian mines compulsory labor has been introduced. Seventy per cent, of the workmen obeyed the order of the authority, the other strikers being forcibly taken to their jobs.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
