COMPENSATION FOR SUBMARINE VICTIMS. Amsterdam, May 1 The International Congress of Transport Workers unanimously passed a resolution urging the German (?) representatives to induce their Government to use all possible means to secure an indemnity for the relatives of the 20,000 killed in submarine warfare. The Belgians refused to vote, because the conference refused to say "murdered" instead of "killed."—Aus.-N-Z. Cable Assn. MEAT-CARRYING STEAMERS. London, May 1. Six large meat carriers are being built on the Tyne for the Federal, ShawSavill and Commonwealth and Dominion Lines. Hawthorn, Leslie and Co. have nearly completed,the Port Nicholson, for the Dominion Line. It is 500 feet long and 12,722 tons dead weight. Swan, Hunter and Co. are building two vessels for the Federal Line; Palmer and Co. are building a third, and two have been launched. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co and Palmer and Co. are building one each for the Shaw-Savfll Line. The last five are 450 feet long, and will carry 3200 tons of meat each.—Aus--N.Z. Cable Assn. MINERS FOR NEW ZEALAND. Received May 6, 10.10 p.m. Melbourne, May 6. It is stated in shipping circles that the passages of two hundred miners to New Zealand are being arranged. WAR CERTIFICATES. The Federal Government is issuing two new series of war savings certificates, bearing compound interest at 5.3 per cent., one purchaseable at ]ss Od and redeemed at the end of five years, the other costing 12s and redeemed in ten years for a pound. SiYLVIA PANKIHLTRST AGAIN. Received May 0, 8 p.m, London, May 5. Sylvia Pankhurst led the May Day processionists to Westminster and attempted to force an entrance to the House of Commons. It is believed a hitch has occurred that will prevent the Irish-Americans meeting Mr. Lloyd George.
