ANTARCTICA.
QUESTION Off POSSESSION Melbourne, April 30 Sir Douglas Mawson has returned from three and a-lialf years' work in oonnection with the Ministry of Munitions. He said Mie hoped that the Peace Conference would find time to deal definitely with the allocation of the Antarctic lands. He felt that these legions were going to be of very considerable economic value. He thought they might fairly claim that the section of the Antarctic between 90 degrees j and ISO degrees east should be under j the control of Australia. Once whaling and sealing, which were things of the near future, began, there would hiive |to be control. There were immense areas of coal-bearing country in the Antarctic, but he did not think they would be developed for a very long time.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
