INTER-ALLIED BOAT RACE.
, NEW ZEALANDERS' BRILLIANT : TRIUMPH. THE CREW ENTERTAINED. Received April 30, 5.5 p.m. Loudon, April 20. The All Blacks thrillingly won the i inter-allied eight-oared bout race on the Seine, defeating the Americans, who were mostly Harvard and Yale men, in the i final by half a length, alter a superb contest along the entire course oi a. mile and three-quarters, in a squall and through jobbled water. The time was Stnia. 28sec. The contestants in the final were New Zealand, America, Prance, and. Newfoundland, who all qualified in that order rather easily in the preliminary heats, the losers being Portugal and Alsace-Lorraine.. The final was thrilling from start to finish, America and the All Blacks quickly outpaced the others, and led each other in turn, amidst memorable excitement, America leading past the lost bridge; but the All Blacks, with a quicker stroke, better swing, and perfect unity, leaped ahead within sight of the mark, and won by a good half-length. I Their victory was exceedingly popular with the concourse of Parisians. A novel feature of the regatta was the daring stunting of a French aviator along the course over the bridges. The All Blacks were entertained in ; the evening by the Hon. Mr Massey at ithe Hotel Majestic, where the Ministers heartily congratulated the team, which truj m follows: Pvte Wilson (bow),, Cpl. White (two), Lieut. Lester (three), Pvte. Coombes (captain and four), Cpl. Patterson (five), Gnr. Rutledge (six), Pvte. Hadfield (seven), Pvte. Healey (stroke), Pvte Truasel (cox). London, April 30. The oarsmen yesterday received the trophies won at the Seine Regatta. Each member was presented with a silver eup ana medal, while thi team got, from the French President, a beautiful Sevres vase, which will probably go to the Dominion War Museum. All the competing crews attended the presentation ceremony, except the Americans, who gained second prizes. The All BJack party and members of Itho New Zealand delegation were entertained at dinner by Sir Joseph Ward at the Hotel Majestic, both Ministers | ex-pressing the hope that the team would repeat their Seine triumph at Henley in July. The team and party, before leaving for London, visited the Peace Con- , ference Chambers at Paris and Versailles.—Official.
