UNEMPLOYMENT AT AUCKLAND. AMONGST RETURNED SOLDIERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A great deal oi unemployment among returned soldiers exists in the Auckland district. The Repatriation Board has on its books a total of 123 men seeking work, and the patriotic association employment bureau a total of 152. A few of the same names may appear on both registers, but the number in need of work can' safely be set down at from 200 to 250. Unfortunately, the majority of those out of work are men who, by reason of their injuries, cannot accept anything but light employment. Some are tradesmen, but they cannot return to their old occupations on account of their disabilities, and others are men who formerly followed unskilled occupations. jj COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS. Auckland, Last Night. The Commercial Travellers' Conference concluded to-day It was decided to fix September 13 as "Association Day'' throughout the Dominion. Mr. C. Pushbrook, of Wellington, was appointed president, and Mr. A. W F. Herrick treasurer. It was decided to hold a district conference in Wellington. A SCHOONER HELD UP. Dunedin, Last Night. Captain Hansen, part owner of the schooner Alert, which has been held up here since April 1 under claim for a little over £I4OO by A. S. Patterson & Co. for alleged damage to cargo, case oil, states that he proposes to make a counter claim for demurrage at the rate of 150 dollars per day. The claim now amounts to close on £9OO.
