CENTRAL SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Central School met on Monday night, Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., presiding. The headmaster's report was as follows: The average daily attendance for the past four weeks has been 590-6 or 94.3 per cenj. pf the roll. The present roll ia 630. At Vogeltown the average has been .45.2; the present roll is 49 The concrete path just completed at Courtenay Street h a good piece of work. At the Central School the girls require a court marked out for tennis; although late in Uw season, there will be many occasions when the girls can get a game. The posts, at one time used for the Giant's Stride, could with advantage be removed as the space is required for drill The .work of the school is going along satisfactorily. The question, of the tennis-court and other improvements was Jeft in the hands of the visiting committee. The report of the senior inspector on his visit to the school was read and the headmaster congratulated on its favorable character.
Four applications were received for the position of caretaker and Mr. S. Brooks was appointed The committee again, drew the attention of the Education Board'to the fact that both the ; Central and Coirtenay Street'schoohr were much overcrowded, while the schools were too old and insanitary to make additions a possible remedy. The matter had been deferred owing to the war, but it was hoped that action would now be delayed no longer.
