NO BEER FOE THE RACES. Wellington, Last Night. . An application was made to the Hutt Licensing Committee to-day for a temporary license for the Trentfiam races on Thursday and Saturday, but was refused by three votes to two. Intoxicating beverages, therefore, will not be on sale at the races. DEMOBILISATION OF OUR TROOPS. Wellington, Last Night. A return received by the Minister for Defence regarding the demobilisation of the Division states that on April 19 the jmmbier of men evacuated from the United Kingdom since the signing of the armistice was 24,823. There were still 281 men in France, 19,155 in the United Kingdom, and 2012 in the hospitals in the United Kingdom. THE W.C.T.U. Napiw, Last Night. At the W.C.T.U. Convention, in th 6 morning, the Mayor entertained the convention to morning tea. Afterwardi the delegates were taken out by tramoars to visit the Acetone works.. The afternoon session was devoted* to discussion on plans of the work for this year.
JUGO-SLAVS TO BE REPATRIATED. Auckland, Last Night. A number of Jugp-Slavs, who are being repatriated at their pwij request, arrived from Whangarei to-night. There are 45 of them altogether, 43 from the Government railway construction works at Tanraroii, near Whangarei Heads, ftnd three from Kaikohe. They' are T Spyr quartered at the fori at North Head, and are, apparently, to be sent dVerse'as yfith the German prisoners, Most of them have accumulated a good deal of money in New Zealand. A SOLICITOR DISGRACED. Wellington, Last Night The' Court of Apjiea'l, orf the motio#of Mr. H. F. Von Haast, on beralf of the 1 New Zealand Law (Society, made ,a"n order striking Herbett Alexander McDonald off the rollß. The application was unopposed. The usual costs, £l3 15s, were- allowed.
