UNSOLDIERLY BEHAVIOUR.

COLONEL CHAFFEY'S COMPLAINT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christcijirch, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association a letter was received from Captain Robertson, R.A.G. Canterbury Military District, in which he stated that the O.C. Canterbury District Colonel R. A. Chaffey, asked to draw attention to the unsoldierlike behaviour of many returned soldiers while on parade on Anzac Day. He said: "The total disregard of the most elementary forms of discipline was especially noticeable b,oth during the march to and from Hagley Park, and also while formed up at the saluting base. It is much regretted that attention should have to ba drawn to such behaviour on the part of some members of your association, but it is felt that unless some guarantee can bo given that better discipline will be maintained in future the question of allowing returned soldiers to take part in any recognised military functions will have to be seriously reconsidered. Sueh behaviour as playing "two up" while at the saluting base, insulting remarks passed by men in the ranks towards the officers, smoking and calling out while in the march through the city, cannot be tolerated" It was resolved to let the letter lie on the table.
