TANGITU AXEMEN'S SPORTS.

A FINE SUCCESS. Those responsible for the initial axemen's sports held at Lower Tangitu on Friday have every reason to feel satisfied with the results secured. In close proximity to Te Wera, many of the spectators who attended the sheep-<: trials the previous day prolonged their stay and thoroughly enjoyed the pro gramme submitted, all the events being keenly contested and in the chopping events enthusiasm ran very high. The officials were: Patron, Mr. C. Musiker: president, Mr H Larsen; vice-presidents, J. Erin, G. Jensen, C. A. Symon9, L. Larsen, T. Henry, C. H. Larsen, R. W. Larsen, R. Larsen, C. Larsen, E. Putt, J. F. Hayes, W. L. Larsen, S. Manson, and R. J. Nicholls; handicappers, L. Ayers and E. Evans; starter, T. Ross; judges, E. Putt, R. J. Nicholls and W. Goode. Throughout the day the public were kept interested, there being no dull moments, and the wish was expressed in many quarters that the sports should become an annual fixture, and probably this wilt prove the case. The following are the results:— Maiden Handicap Chop: R. Larsen 1, W. Rawlinson 2, S. D. Holley 3. Open Underhand Chop: O. Dowmaii 1, S. D. Holley 2, A. J. Holley 3. Tangitu Chop (18in): D. Holley 1, W. Dowman 2. Local Chop (15in): W. Dowman 1 S. D. Holley 2. Single-hand Sawing: W. Dowman 1, G. Jensen 2. Maiden Double-handed Sawing: Larsen and Dowman 1, Johnson and Holley 2i Ladies' Double-handed Sawing: Misses Myers 1, Misses Rolfe and Lambert 2. Single Ladies' Race, 50yds.: MJss Myers 1. Horse Jumping: Mr. Miller's Bally 1, Mr. Linn's Pat 2. Tog-of-war: The World won from 'Tangitu. Open Double-handed Sawing: Jensen land Symons 1, Dowman Bros. 2. ( Stepping the chain, sheep guessing and other competitions were also decided, but the results were unobtainable. I In the evening a dance was held a( j-the Matau school, the attendance being [■wry good, and forming a fitting wind,up to an enjoyable day and evening.
