NEW PLYMOUTH RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL REPORT. % The report to be presented to the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Returned Soldiers' Association to-night states that the end of the financial year has been made March 31 in order to comply with the request of headquarters. The past year saw a very rapid increase in membership, which now stood at 360, and with the cessation of hostilities and the demobilisation and return of men to New Zealand, a very large increase could be looked for. it was hoped that all members would reallise that the satisfactory repatriation of the returned soldier was not yet complete. This called for considerable activity on the part of all Returned Soldiers' Associations, and in consequence the closest co-operation and strong support of each and every member <vere vitally important. The report recorded the death of four members, Messrs A. R. J. Parker, L. A. Walker, E. Aitkershead and A. N. Storring, through influenza and to their relatives deep sympathy was accorded. The death also occurred after a long and painful illness of Mr. H. Morshead, whose decease has been greatly regretted by all who were acquainted with him. The club was also unfortunate in losing its patron, Mr. H. J. Okey, M.P., in whom, in his official capacity, all returned soldiers had a strong friend and helper. At a general meeting a vote of sympathy with his relatives was passed, and appreciaton of his services to returned soldiers was placed on record. Owing to the now large membership and probable rapid increase, the executive felt that the work of the Association can best be carried on with the assistance of a whole-time permanent organising secretary, and the committee recommended this to the consideration of the meeting.- It was proposed that initial information with regard to land settlement and repatriation applications could be supplied, as well as the general work of the association be greatly benefited by such an appointment- Mr. E. B. Ellerm bad been appointed a member of the Repatriation 'Boird, and a report of the woTk transacted would be presented to the meeting. After referring to Anzac Day the report expressed the hope tb»* all members would endeavor to be present at the peace celebrations. The financial position was stated to be satisfactory, a substantial amount being untouched. Notice of motion was given by Mr. Southam to alter the rules so as to provide that the Committee shall consist of a president, two vice-presidents, hon. treasure-, secretary, and six ordinary members, all to be eligible for reelection.
