PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

DEPUTATION TO ACTING PRIME MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A suggestion regarding peace lions, made by the Government to local authorities, is that the proceedings should spread over three days, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday after the signing of the preliminaries. s A deputation waited on the Acting Prime Minister to-day; suggesting that the arrangement should be varied to give committees more time fbr preparations. It was suggested that celebrations commence on the second Sunday after signing. Sir James Allen said the Government had circulated the suggestions to local authorities as to celebrations, but had not issued any directions," and it was open to any city or town to vary the arrangements in any way thought desirable. He would bring the matter before Cabinet, but did not think Cabinet would be willing to issue any directions. He was inclined to think the question would be left for the individual decision of the local bodies concerned. It was pointed out to the Minister that that would leave the position very difficult, and it was suggested that the Wellington committee get into touch with the committees of other main centres, and the replies from these might be a guide to the Government. Sir Jamles Allen approved of this course, and telegrams were dispatched to mayors of other centres.
