The Rev. G. T. Robson, formerly of New Plymouth, has been awarded the Military Cross. Mrs. G. E. Gush, Devon Street, has received cable advice that her son, Pvte. W. B. Gush, is returning by the Northumberland, due in Wellington on May 9. Lieut. Arthur Thompson, M.M., who will be remembered as a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, New Plymouth, some years ago, is on a short visit here. Word has been received that Rifleman W. Smith, son of Mrs R. Smith, Devon Street west, will arrive by the Northumberland about May 9.
Mr. J. M. Shotter, of Midhirst, has received advice that his son, Ronald, Ivho left with the 13th reinforcements, is returning to New Zealand by the Northumberland, due to arrive iu Wellington on May 9. Mr. George Marsh, of Egmout Village, has received word that his son, Private Gordon H. Marsh, is returning on or about May 9 by H.M.T. Northumberland.
Mr. Clias, L. Cameron, who died at the New Plymouth Hospital on Wednesday, was on the staff of the Hawera post office, and, before that, at Stratford. His parents reside on Norfolk Road. Lieut.-Colonel A. R. L. D. Carbery, of Stratford, who has been at the front since the commencement of the war, has relinquished the appointment of Senior Medical Officer, B Group, X.Z.E.F., Codford.
Advice has been received by Mrs. F. R Mills, Leach street, New Plymouth, that her son, Corporal G. A. Mills, wh6 enlisted with the 18th Reinforcements, Is returning by the Northumberland, due to arrive at Wellington on May 9. The death is announced of Mr. George Whitcombe, aged 65, one of the founders of the Kaitawa district, near Pahiatua. He was chairman of the Pahiatua County Council for several years, and unsuccessfully contested the Pahiatua seat in Parliament. He was well known in South Canterbury. Among the corps of military nurses who are returning by the Taimii. which was due at Wellington yesterday, is Sister Parkinson, who has served at Brockenhurst and Walton and in France for terms exceeding over two years Sister Parkinson was formerly a member of the 9taff of the New Plymouth Hospital.
At the New Plymouth Club on Monday evening the secretary (Mr. K. L. Humphries) was the recipient of a presentation from members. Mr. Humphries joins the ranks of the benedicts to-day. The presentation (which was made by Mr. C. M. Hill, vice-president of the institution) was in the form of a substantial cheque. Mr. Humphries suitably responded. Dr. Thomson, who returned to New Zealand on the hospital ship Malieno, is in Hawera on leave, but has to return to Wellington this week, when he may conclude his work in the military service, preparatory to resuming charge of the hospital and his private practice in Hawera. The doctor is looking well after his sea trip, which has quite set him up. —Hawera Star. The Auckland Star reports the death in Wellington of Mr. Archibald Forbes McMinn. The deceased was well known in football circles as "Tiny" McMinn, being about six feet four inches in height and built proportionately. He toured Australia with the New Zealand representative team some years ago. Mr. McMinn was also recognised as a firstclass drummer, being for many years a member of a band at Palmerston, where he was born about forty years ago. He is survived by a widow and two children, whose home is in Dannevirke.
